Double your impact

This winter, join us on a journey to transform the lives of four communities in northern Ghana all through the power of community – and for one week only, your donation will be doubled.
From midday Tuesday 3 December to midday Tuesday 10 December, during The Big Give Christmas Challenge, every pound you donate to AfriKids will have twice the impact.
Our goal is to raise £40,000, which will be doubled to an incredible £80,000. These funds will support essential work in four communities to:
- Empower mothers with business skills and microfinance, giving them the means to earn a stable income so children are no longer relied upon to work instead of going to school.
- Educate communities on the importance of prioritising education for all children.
- Improve access to education by enhancing the quality of teaching and ensuring schools are accessible to all children, so they can learn effectively when they attend.
- Advocate for systemic change to create a ripple effect, mobilising communities to influence decision-making and drive the changes needed to keep children in school.
This is the power of community in action: working together to create lasting change and brighter futures.
Your donation will be matched pound-for-pound during The Big Give Christmas Challenge.

A huge thank you to our generous match funders, Diana and Paul Leonard, and The Big Give’s champion funders for making this opportunity possible.
The donate button will appear on AfriKids’ Big Give page when the challenge goes live at midday on Tuesday 3 December.

My name is Cecilia and I’m a District Manager at AfriKids. This winter, I’d like to welcome you to the vibrant communities of northern Ghana, where the power of community is at the heart of everything we do.
Here, mothers come together at bustling market days every three days, selling handmade goods, fresh produce, and beautifully woven smocks. Families rear goats, cows, and guinea fowl, while communities unite to support their schools, working together to provide meals and even football gear for the children. Women lead with warmth and determination, their resilience and resourcefulness embodying the unity that binds Muslims and Christians together in harmony.
Ours is a community full of smiles, warmth, and waves of welcome.

But life here is not without challenges. Many women and girls have never had the chance to go to school. Nearly half, in fact. Seven in ten people live in multidimensional poverty, and one in four children are not in school. These barriers hold families back from breaking the cycle of poverty.
This year has been especially hard, with poor farming yields making food scarce, and school facing difficulties like broken furniture and leaking roofs. Yet, despite these challenges, the commitment to creating brighter futures for our children remains unshakable.
I believe that the power of community can overcome these challenges.
By empowering mothers with business skills and access to microfinance, they can earn stable incomes and ensure their children stay in school. Through education on the importance of prioritising schooling and improving access with better teaching and facilities, we can help children thrive in the classroom. And when we mobilise communities to advocate for systemic change, it creates a ripple effect that drives lasting progress for everyone. There is so much potential here, but we can’t do it without your support.
This season, join us in building a world where every child can attend school, every family can thrive, and these vibrant communities can continue to flourish with hope and opportunity.
From 3–10 December, through the Big Give Christmas Challenge, every donation you make will be doubled.
Together, let’s harness the power of community to transform lives – because every child deserves the chance to dream boldly, every family deserves the tools to thrive, and every community deserves the opportunity to build a brighter future.
Big smiles,
Cecilia
District Manager
